NaNoWriMo may be your chance to get started…
It’s coming! November is National Novel Writing Month (or NaNoWriMo for short). So what does that mean? Every year, hundreds of thousands of established and aspiring writers commit to writing 50,000 words of a new novel during the month of November. That can seem quite daunting, especially for new writers. So, what is a motivated yet apprehensive writer supposed to do?
Sign up at https://nanowrimo.org to publicly announce that you intend to take part in the challenge. It often happens that we are more likely to complete tasks when we are held accountable to a community. You can find that community, along with numerous tools and forums, to help you reach your goal on the NaNoWriMo website.
Not ready for a public commitment? No worries. You can track personal goals on your own timeline, either through https://nanowrimo.org or independently. But no matter how you choose to participate, the most important thing is that you get started. Always dreamed of writing a novel? Then NaNoWriMo may be for you.
If you like the idea of NaNoWriMo, but don’t feel like you can participate this year, make a commitment for November 2023 and put it on your calendar. Every year, I tell myself I will participate next November, and every year it sneaks up on me and I feel incredibly unprepared. So I am marking my calendar for November 2023 and promising myself (and you) that I will finally take on this challenge. Comment below and let us know if you plan to participate in 2022, or if you will join me in the 2023 challenge. Either way, be sure to submit your draft to Typing Monkey Publishers for feedback and consideration.
